Nappy Heads Unite (video)

I saw this video on a blog that i follow: http://www.naturalsobsessed.blogspot.com/ She a very knowledgeable sister so check her out.  But I had to re-post this and give my experiences, emotions and reaction from family after my BC. I love this video. An i totally understand where the girl is coming from completely. Cause when i told my grandmother that i got my hair cut and I'm going natural the first thing she said to me was, " You gonna have Nigga hair. You gonna look silly it ain't gonna grow back"  Now mind you she is in her  60s this was the thing her in time to be natural and have an Afro & etc. I got so upset i couldn't talk to her, and i had to hang up...like I was soooo hurt in my life. Her opinion affected me the most because i always, always, ALWAYS value my families views on things. That only motivated me show her how much my natural essence is beauty. This is the way Allah put my on this earth ya know? This is what he gave me...and that natural  hair can grow and can be healthy just as much as the next person. And that No creamy crack(i.e. Perm) is supposed to define who I am.  And it's sad that so many people have this conceptualizations that if your hair is not straight or if you don't look a certain way you're not excepted. ya know? An I don't care about being the black sheep to anyone because to me, my natural beauty out shines any America top model with  a made up face, chic clothes and light colored eyes.

 I. AM. BEAUTY.
 I .AM. BEAUTIFUL. NATURALLY
And I wouldn't have it any other way.

Hair Texture

After many conversations with my beautician and much Google I found out that my hair type is 4B (Kinky). I felt silly that i never knew what my hair type was at all  until i went natural (embarrassing). But I did find great deal of information online which helped me out A LOT & I hope this info is useful to you as well.

Q: What does it mean to have 4B hair?

Despite many misconceptions, this tightly coiled hair is quite fine and fragile. It is wiry, and delicate by nature. Each strand usually has a zig zag pattern. Kinky hair is the driest hair type, thus it is more prone to breakage and requires a gentle touch. A misconception exists that this hair type does not grow. Kinky hair grows at the same rate as other texture, however, if not treated properly it breaks more than other textures. Treat this hair type like a fine silk blouse – cleanse gently, detangle softly, and avoid harsh chemicals.

Q: How do i keep it from breakage, dry, tangling so much?

Because kinky hair is dry by nature, and therefore breaks easily, it needs added moisture, daily. Dry hair breaks…well moisturized hair is supple and has elasticity. The key to keeping these natural locks healthy, shiny, and beautiful is to moisturize every step of the way. Start with a creamy, sulfate free, moisturizing cleanser, follow suit with a super hydrating conditioner, prep with a rich moisturizer and style with a rich cream, full of natural oils and rich butters. Look for moisturizing humectants, natural conditioning agents, and exotic extracts to add moisture to these locks. Avoid mineral, and petrolatum oil and heavy waxes!

Q: Is there a lot of shrinkage?

Yes. Up to 75%

Q: Any products that maybe helpful?

Perfect Moisturizer

So I've been doing TONS of research on different oils and the one that i have absolutely fallen in  with is the Almond oil.  I saw a lot of video and reviews from women who have natural hair saying how good it is as a moisturizer. I found this particular brand at a health foods store for about $10 for a 16oz. bottle which i think is reasonable. I've been using it now about a week and a half and I LOVE IT....lol   I also found that Jojoba oil, Argan, Coconut oil all moisturizes, prevent breakage and help hair growth
And...I also found Shea Moisture Organic Raw Shea Butter Moisture retention shampoo and Restorative conditioner. I found this at  Target for about $10 ea. and the price is great for the quality of product you're receiving. And by the way it smells absolutely Amazing!   I've been using this about 2 -3 months now, and I think it perfect for me and for anyone else who had dry hair or  who has problems with breakage.

Both these products or good for any hair type relaxed or natural to implement into your hair routine

My BC

Okay so I've talking about going natural for years now. I would stop perming my hair like 2 years in a row and would just break down and perm is again cause i would see a style i wanted that would require my hair being relaxed...Soooo last be week I was like you know what I'm cutting all the perm out and I'm going natural! I had been transitioning for about 8 months; I coped with the transition by getting Sew-in ALL the time lol. Before i cut my hair i started doing research and try to figure out ways to keep it manageable, but keeping moisturizing was a biggest concern. And I actually  found a site gave me eye opening incite on moisturing my hair with almond oil instead of the B&B Grease I had using forever and a day. But I must say that I am Addicted to Sweet Almond oil  here  the link if you want more info http://www.buzzle.com/articles/sweet-almond-oil-benefits.html. I'm loving every minute of being natural  and the funny thing i clean out my hair products everything I mean EVERYTHING is organic and i'm noticing that organic foods are migrating into my diet. SO HAPPY :-) I'm so excited more updates coming soon.

The Proposal Introducing Us!

Okay I just started this blog, but tryin to give you a little update on me. I got engaged June 2010. I had just moved to Atlanta from Ft. Bragg, NC for college; not really looking for love just focusing on school. I was out job hunting one day and i came across the sexiest guy i had seen in a loooooooong time and he walked into this store and he had papers in his hand so i assumed he was job hunting too; so i walked in behind him. So I walk to the front desk an asked if they were hiring they said yes and went to get the owner.
Now as I'm standing waiting I'm looking around like where's the cutie i saw earlier go. Someone saids excuse me my employee told me you were looking for a job. I turn around to see the cutie....OMG he was the owner. i turn all shades of red on my cheeks. lol He gave me a big handsome smile and extended his hand. we did a short interview ,and he hired me on the spot. We started flirting and hanging out after work and it slowly formed into a more serious relationship. A year in he proposed I was sooo surprised when he asked me to marry him!! We were talking about getting married but i didnt think it would happen this fast.
We have been together for two years going on three in September! But im very happy and blessed! He is the most amazing and romantic man I've ever met! I couldn't ask for a better fiancée he's heaven sent!

I'm Sooo Ready To Be The Mrs. <3
